The Home of Aphrodite

Everyone who is anyone has visited Cyprus: Alexander the Great, Cleopatra, Saint Paul, Richard the Lionheart to name but a few - and you'll see the fascinating evidence of their occupation wherever you go.

The beautiful island - the third largest in the Mediterranean - still has something for everyone. The rugged coast has golden beaches, cliffs and caves. Picturesque harbours and superb diving and watersports. Inland you can head back in time to mountain-top monestaries, sleepy untouched villages and the wild mountains - refreshingly cool even in summer when the coast is gently sizzling. Driving is easy - on the left just like home and English is widely spoken - You will get a great welcome!

But then it is the Home of Aphrodite, Greek goddess of Love and Beauty. When you get to Cyprus, you'll understand why.

Places to Visit

The unspoilt sandy local beach is 15 minutes walk away with many other fabulous beaches nearby to be explored.

Being on the edge of the Karpas Peninsula, it is only half an hour to some of the most beautiful, yet quiet, beaches in the Med.

The closest large town is Famagusta. You can view its Walled City: Leonardo DaVinci advised on the building of these medieval walls.
Other Interesting buildings include the Churches of the Templars and Hospitaliers, with beaitifully stone-carved windows and coats of arms, the Turkish baths next to the Church of St Frances, the Lusignan Palace and St Nicholas Cathedral, where many Lusignan kings were crowned before it became the Lala Mustafa Pasha mosque in the 16th Century. The Othello Towers in the Old Town of Famagusta is a place of interest.

In addition, Famagusta has many shops, banks, restaurants, bars and discos which remain open until 3.00AM.

Many other unique historical sites await your visit, including Bellapais Abbey, St Hilarion Castle, Buffavento Castle, Kantara Castle and Kyrenia Castle. Kantara Castle is a 30 minute journey and a beautiful place for us westerners to meditate.

The Roman ruins at Salamis are a most impressive historical site. The best preserved remains are the gymnasium, baths and a spectacular amphitheatre - one of the largest in the Mediterranean.

For those of you who like fishing and boat trips, Kyrenia, known locally as Girne is the place - with plenty of shops and restaurants around its ancient harbour.
